Fume-Induced Divine Ramblings

Contacting Delphi… the oracle is unavailable. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I often complain about Washington, DC but I have to take some responsibility for not contributing to the city. The fine folks at The New Gay, Karl and Danny, and the folks behind Learn-a-palooza are trying to make DC a better, more interesting place. I’m definitely participating in some of the classes being taught tomorrow by fine DC folks!

Last 2 Days and the Mt. Pleasant Fire

The last two days I’ve been incredibly busy at work. I was preparing a presentation for my boss. Then on Wednesday I went to frame the poster I got from Edward Tufte’s store, “Napoleon’s March.” I did it at a DIY place but it was still kind of expensive. Yesterday, I hung out with a couple of co-workers, we went to Lia’s for drinks and dinner then saw an advance preview of “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.” I really recommend the movie, it was hilarious!

Yesterday when I woke up I smelled burned rubber. I soon found out that there was a huge fire a couple of blocks from my place. About 200 people were displaced but it looks like everyone is safe. When I came home late last the night the rubber smell was still around and I got to see the building and it just made me really sad. I was on the phone with my parents and they immediately sensed my mood swing. I’m wondering if there is any way to help the people who were displaced…img_5431.jpg

Targeting Columbia Heights

I hang out in cafes on most weekends, I love Sticky Fingers and Mayorga Lounge. I always pass by the construction that will soon turn into a Target, Best Buy, Bed Bath and Beyond, Ross, Marshall’s, etc. The Target is supposed to open March 9th, 2008. I’m wondering how the neighborhood will be affected. It’s already pretty hard to find a seat at the cafes. I imagine the influx of people to the Target and Best Buy will make it sort of impossible. I’m keeping my mind open. While Dos Gringos Cafe is a mere block and a half from my place but it has no free wireless connection and the food leaves a lot to be desired.

“Dos Gringos?! Un chingo!”

And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle. And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.
